Giodo Nerello Mascalese

Carlo Ferrini,  one of the world’s leading oenologists, consults for many Italian wine estates, both in vineyard practices and cellar practices.

In 2010 he decided to buy a parcel of land (5,000 mq.) on Mt. Etna in Sicily. It was a small piece of land with many olive trees, cherry trees, and a lot of “albarello” plants of Nerello Mascalese. The following year, Carlo bought an additional 6 small parcels, summing up to a very beautiful vineyard. The first release of Carlo’s Nerello Mascalese is the 2016 vintage, with a production of 6,000 bottles.

Produced from 80-100 year old pre-phylloxera vines at an elevation of 2,300 feet above sea level, trained in the traditional low-bush “alberello” style. Elevation and northern exposure are ideal for Nerello Mascalese.  The volcanic soil yields a wine rich in power, complexity, and fruit.
