Villa Raiano

Villa Raiano  was established in 1996, by brothers Sabino and Simone Basso, along with brother-in-law Paolo Sibillo. It is located in the southern Italian region of Campania, the province of Avellino, and the town of Castelfranci. The estate has 27 hectares (67 acres)  of property, emphasizing the historical indigenous grapes of the land; Greco, Fiano, Aglianico, and Falanghina.    The province of Avellino is important in Italian wine lore as it is the only province in Italy where three DOCG wines are grown.  Those wines are Fiano D’Avellino, Greco di Tufo, and Taurasi.  Even though Villa Raiano is in the south of Italy, their specific location has a very unique micro climate.  In the hills of Irpinia 1,200 feet above sea level, nestled between the  two mountain ranges of Terminio  Tuoro and Partemio, the climate is ideal for growing the grapes.  Winters are cold, while summertime has hot sunny days, but cool nights.   A state of the art cellar was completed in 2009.  The grapes enter at the top and are pressed. Then they go one floor lower for fermentation. Eventually they come deep underground into the bottling plant. This way they never have to pump the wine by machine, and that ensures real quality.
