Fattoria Della Aiola
Not far from the city of Siena, the historic winery Fattoria dell’Aiola lies in the southeast corner of the Chianti Classico wine-growing region. The 100 hectares of property around the village of Vagliagli are covered by vineyards, olive groves and woods. The estate was founded in 1934 by an Italian politician, Giovanni Malagodi. In 2012, the property was acquired by Russian investors, who have invested significantly in cutting-edge equipment, replanting of vineyards, and an over-all restructuring of the winery. Additionally, in 2015, Paolo Salvi, one of the top enologists in Italy and a Sangiovese expert joined the team as the oenologist.
In the center of the estate stands the Aiola Villa with medieval origins, flanked by the now modern production cellar. Respect for the territory and its traditions, many years of experience, and a commitment to the environment; these are the criteria for maintaining the prestige of the Aiola brand. If you’ve never heard of this estate, you definitely need to become familiar with it. It’s home to some of the most unique galestro and alberese soils in Tuscany. What you get is a traditional Chianti Classico… light body, good acidity and tartness, some minerality from the soil, and an understanding of where the wine came from.
